A Letter to the Woman Looking for Home

Home is where we live. But the word ‘home’ means a lot more than just the four walls that we call ours. This past summer, Joseph and I bought our first home and sometimes the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the word “home” is now, how every broken toilet, leaking laundry room, poorly insulated door, roach infested stove, and sinkhole in the backyard is ours to take care of and fix.

Yes, there is a sinkhole in our backyard.

It’s crazy.

This is what no one prepared me for before I signed on the dotted line of the mortgage papers.

But, what we’re striving for here in the Langr home, lovingly referred to as the Guadalupe house, is a domestic church - something that points those who enter back to the heart of the Father.

Domestic Church isn’t the phrase the comes to mind when dishes are piling up, laundry is really piling up, but that’s what were called to every day - and what we’re called to invite others into.

Your home isn’t too messy to invite others into. It’s not too small, either.

Let’s explore this idea of home together, and challenge the way that we think about the places where we live.

Topics we talked about in this episode:

  • The theology of our homes

  • Reclaiming the beauty of creating a home

  • How an ordered home fosters creativity and order in our daily lives

  • Why your home isn’t too small or messy for hospitality
