7QT 24: Coffee Bars, Cranberry Turkey, and Date Nights
We've feasted on Thanksgiving turkey and have TONS of leftovers. But before we make another stuffing-potato-cheese-turkey sandwich, let's take a look at the Langr adventures from this week!
1. Spoiled by Amazon
For my birthday last year, Joseph replaced my phone. It was great until Monday night, when I pulled it out to pray night prayer and found it stuck in the perpetual reboot cycle of death. After chatting with LG (which wasn't as helpful as I had hoped), we decided it was past the point of no return, and ventured onto Amazon to buy a replacement. We're super spoiled here in KC with same-day Amazon shipping (whoa, talk about dangerous, friends). So within a couple hours I was as good as new.
2. Furniture adventures
With all the glorious new space in our new duplex, we decided to splurge and buy a coffee bar. Because what else would make a house into a home for the Langrs than a spot dedicated to coffee prep? With the help of the Letgo app (haven't tried it? You should!), we got in touch with Shari. Her job is staging houses and her home is like a boutique that would make Joanna Gaines flip. It fit in my car, was a bargain price, and is painted in chalk paint. In other words, we couldn't let that deal pass us by. Pictures of the coffee bar in it's new home will be coming shortly!
3. Cooking our first Thanksgiving dinner
Today, Joseph's dad came over for a late Thanksgiving lunch. We decided to cook our 8 pound turkey breast in a crock-pot and it turned out beautifully. Want to save the recipe for next year? We do, too! Check it out here.
4. Our first Thanksgiving leftovers
The only thing better than giving thanks on Thanksgiving is giving thanks for leftovers on Thanksgiving. Holy smokes we have a lot of leftovers to be thankful for. We sat down over leftover sandwiches tonight and discussed the numerous dishes we'll be making next week. I'm super pumped for this Thanksgiving sweet potato risotto. We may or may not have tons of sweet potatoes leftover because we forgot to make them, but that's beside the point.
5. Date nights on date nights
Last Friday evening Joseph and I went on a late birthday date. We started off the night at the Foley theater for a cello concert, and ended with drinks at a local speak-easy called 'The Ship'. Not only is it a great place for people watching (an introvert's favorite pastime), but the drinks were great and the atmosphere can't be beat.
Wednesday night we went on a double date with my parents. We ate at Unforked and finished with a night of KC jazz over at the Green Lady Jazz Lounge. I discovered a great coffee martini (who is surprised?) and the band playing was phenomenal.
6. So this is why we don't watch a ton of T.V.
Joseph and I don't watch a lot of TV, but it felt like a great way to unwind last night after our first Thanksgiving party. Because we renewed our Amazon prime account, we decided to stream 'A Hologram for the King' staring Tom Hanks. If you haven't watched it, don't waste your time. If you have watched it, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Although the acting was great, and the story was intriguing, it lacked an 'aha' moment. You know, the moment where the movie comes together and everything makes sense? Instead, the credits started rolling and I was left wondering what the heck I just watched. No wonder I like books so much.
7. Bring on Advent!
Last weekend we bought our advent candles and holders. We adventured out to a local thrift store and found four candleholders. A piece of pine tree (conveintly found in our aparment parking lot) made the wreath complete. To top it all off, our Every Sacred Sunday journals came in this week! Needless to say, Advent can come quickly, the Langrs are ready!
